I am a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA). I have lived and worked in many different countries and settings while keeping a private practice.

 

Throughout my broad-ranged work life which included the Academy, the School System and being the Director of a Community Service Board, I have learned that each person can only be understood in their social context. Working with people of all ages and genders, I offer the support each patient needs to feel heard, seen, and accepted. I use simple language and humor to get to the core of our conscious struggles, and sometimes, to trauma only the body can express.

 

I earned my Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Frankfurt University, Germany, in 1976, with “magna cum laude.” After moving to the USA I received my MSW from SUNY, Stony Brook in 1983, followed by earning a Postdoctoral Certificate in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis in the Department of Psychology from NYU in 1989. I completed a second psychoanalytic training at the Contemporary Freudian Society (CFS) in 1997.

 

In 2009, I joined the faculty of the Emory University Psychoanalytic Institute (EUPI) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Emory University School of Medicine. Since 2015, I have been an Adjunct Associate Professor and a Teaching/Supervising Psychoanalyst. Currently, I am a member of several national and international psychoanalytic professional associations. Our world-view has evolved since Freud, and as a Contemporary Relational Psychoanalyst, I focus on our shared humanity. With mindfulness and compassion I help you formulate an individual solution for your conflicts that lead to a more integrated and hopeful life.
